Oh, that really shows how far the glacier melt has progressed. Twenty years ago, the ice still covered about half the height of the visible lateral moraine. The glacier tongue then still reached the larger visible waterfall (just below the switchback curve beneath the hotel). A hundred years ago, the glacier tongue extended almost down to the valley floor at Gletsch.

Yes, Manfred, the retreat of the glaciers is particularly evident at the Rhône Glacier. In old photos, you can see that the glacier tongue once extended down into the valley. In 1971, I was there as a young student and I still clearly remember that back then the ice extended much further down than it does now.

this shot was taken from the train, from a carriage where fortunately the windows can still be opened.
Since I know from your image descriptions that the Dents de Midi are usually shrouded in clouds (which I experienced myself two days later), I just had to take advantage of this opportunity, as they were cloud-free for once on this day.

I definitely expected the palm trees at Lake Geneva, but at Lake Thun they were somewhat unusual. However, they are all in pots so they can be overwintered in a warmer place.

Well, for example, I hardly use any computer programs to optimize my images; almost everything I have is original!
It was already good last Friday that I only went to the Gäubodenfest in Straubing after taking photos :-), because after 6 Maß beers, you just can't keep photographing!

@Stefan: For us, there were only beautiful moments on this 2nd of August: the unique Marchés Folkloriques, the peaceful boat trip, the excellent lunch, and the digestion-promoting walk afterwards. And all of this in wonderful weather: simply perfect!

I already noticed that it was a photomontage! When I first saw the image in small size, I thought the glass was standing on a table with the Stafen sitting in the background, but when I clicked on it, I recognized it by the glass itself, because otherwise the background would have to look different! But still well done!

we have experienced a few times that some Swiss mountains are too shy to reveal themselves. Not only the Dents-de-Midi on this day, but also the Jungfrau stubbornly hid behind the clouds when we were at Niesen-Kulm. One can certainly understand that a Jungfrau is so shy. ☺

you have to be at the right place at the right time. ☺ Although that is not entirely true in this case. We were at the Ettelbrück train station 10 minutes earlier, but the rainbow was not there yet. If we had gone back, it might have already disappeared. So we took the pictures right there.
