The Querfurt Plateau is a cultural landscape strongly shaped by agriculture. The fertile soils here yield high harvests. With industrialization, lignite mining gained significant importance. However, the lignite power plant Schkopau visible in the background is now mainly supplied from the Profen open-cast mine near Zeitz, following the end of mining in the nearby Geiseltal open-cast mine.
