Wide view from the Brocken around midday on 10.06.2012: View from the summit circular trail over the northern Harz and the Harz foothills with some of the approximately 80 towns and 600 villages that are said to be visible from up here on particularly clear days: Stapelburg at the edge of the Harz, the area around Braunschweig and Wolfenbüttel (left below the horizon), and the Elm, a long ridge between Braunschweig and Helmstedt (right below the horizon), and far beyond into the North German Plain. In many places, the forest of the former spruce monocultures in the Harz National Park is dying to make room for new forest – primeval forest; the forest is healing itself here...
