The mysterious and bizarre figures and towers with the "Long Wall" at Königsstein, a part of the Devil's Wall near Neinstedt; shot in the afternoon of 03.11.2015 on the Devil's Wall Trail. No wonder that people of earlier times and centuries could not explain the formation of these enigmatic and peculiar rock formations and invented fairy tales and legends, passing them down from generation to generation... 

Impressive and magical rock face and towers of the "Königstein," a part of the Teufelsmauer near Neinstedt; shot in the afternoon of 03.11.2015 on the Teufelsmauer trail. The rock is bright in the sun with dark gray streaks and spots and is covered with colorful lichens, e.g., yellow or golden or reddish-brown, giving it a lively appearance, not dark or eerie at all... 

Two bicycles belonging to visitors of the Brocken Museum; behind them, the view extends over northern Germany for about 140 km. On such days, you can directly see the "Kalimandscharo" on the horizon just next to the left edge of the image, a huge potash mining spoil heap about 100 km away. From the Brocken, you can often see several hundred villages and towns... Photo taken in the afternoon of July 21, 2013. 

The weather station on the Brocken was built in 1939 and still serves as a weather station today. Despite the freezing temperatures, December 27, 2014, also offered good visibility of the eastern Harz (in the background). Most days of the year, the summit is shrouded in clouds. 

In the last days of December, winter has arrived on the Brocken. Due to the strong wind, the trees here only reach low heights, and the summit is already above the tree line. In the background, the view extends over the High Harz towards the southern edge of the Harz. (27.12.2014) 
