On such days, you can directly see the Kalimandscharo on the horizon just next to the left edge of the image, a huge potash mining spoil heap about 100 km away. From the Brocken, you can often see several hundred villages and towns... Photo taken in the afternoon of July 21, 2013.

The weather station on the Brocken was built in 1939 and still serves as a weather station today. Despite the freezing temperatures, December 27, 2014, also offered good visibility of the eastern Harz (in the background). Most days of the year, the summit is shrouded in clouds.
