The Devil's Wall is a peculiar sandstone formation that stretches over 20 km from Ballenstedt to Blankenburg. According to legend, God and the Devil disputed over dominance at the edge of the Harz Mountains. They agreed that the Devil would gain control over the Harz if he could build a wall around it overnight. However, the Devil failed to complete the wall, so he angrily tore it down again. The image shows the so-called Long Wall near Neinstedt, covered with snow on 06.01.2016. 

Mysterious and fantastic huge "figure" at Königstein, a part of the Devil's Wall near Neinstedt. All of these are sculptures created by nature itself. These rock formations appear particularly impressive and mysterious because the vast landscape around them is so different, and they seem to be piled up or arranged across it from east to west like along a massive invisible string. Somehow quite crazy! Shot in the afternoon of 03.11.2015 on the Devil's Wall Trail near Neinstedt... 

The mysterious and bizarre figures and towers with the "Long Wall" at Königsstein, a part of the Devil's Wall near Neinstedt; shot in the afternoon of 03.11.2015 on the Devil's Wall Trail. No wonder that people of earlier times and centuries could not explain the formation of these enigmatic and peculiar rock formations and invented fairy tales and legends, passing them down from generation to generation... 

Impressive and magical rock face and towers of the "Königstein," a part of the Teufelsmauer near Neinstedt; shot in the afternoon of 03.11.2015 on the Teufelsmauer trail. The rock is bright in the sun with dark gray streaks and spots and is covered with colorful lichens, e.g., yellow or golden or reddish-brown, giving it a lively appearance, not dark or eerie at all... 
