Ice floes on the Duisburg Ruhr meadows (January 11, 2003). At the beginning of 2003, the Rhine experienced severe flooding, which also inundated the Ruhr meadows near the river mouth. It froze, and an ice cover formed. As the floodwaters receded, the ice remained on the meadows due to persistent frost. 
