Cevedale-Vioz Ridge. Directly south of the Ortler massif lies the Cevedale-Vioz Ridge. Here, the border between Lombardy, Trentino, and South Tyrol runs. Beyond this, the route passes over the Gavia Pass, known from the Giro d'Italia with its unpaved southern descent.

Bernina Group. In the center of the image, brightly illuminated, you can see Piz Bernina (4049 m). The only 4000-meter peak in the Eastern Alps. Behind it, particularly dominant, you can see the slightly smaller Monte Disgrazia of the Bergell Alps in Italy.

Brenta Dolomites. This mountain range in the Alps is considered part of the Dolomites only in Italy. It is located far outside the actual Dolomites, to the right of the Adige River. The rock is mainly dolomite, whose 40-50 meter thick layers are clearly visible here as well. The highest peak is Cima Tosa at 3173 m. Clearly visible in front of the still unlit valleys is the distinctive rock tower Campanile Basso at 2883 m.

Gran Sasso Massif. Deep below lies the largest laboratory for elementary particle physics in Europe. On top, to the left, is the second largest plateau in Europe. The highest point, Corno Grande at 2912 m, was first climbed in 1572. There is also a notorious spot; if you look closely to the left of the highest peaks, you will find a white spot. That was where Mussolini was held captive when he was freed by the Nazis during their attempt to establish a puppet republic in the north.
