The Fehmarnsund Bridge, or as the locals call it: the largest coat hanger in the world. The bridge celebrated its 50th anniversary on April 30th this year and is a landmark of Schleswig-Holstein. It connects the island of Fehmarn in the Baltic Sea with the mainland near Großenbrode and is a combined road and railway bridge.<br> On May 14, 1963, the ferry port of Puttgarden, about 8 km away, was opened, from where ferries continue to Denmark. The Vogelfluglinie was completed and significantly eased train and car traffic. This anniversary 50 years of the Vogelfluglinie was also celebrated with a special postage stamp and several events on Fehmarn.<br> Photo taken on 12.06.2013

Unfortunately unsuitable for swimming, but a real highlight for nature lovers and walkers on Fehmarn. On the beach at Katharinenhof, the Baltic Sea repeatedly gnaws at the land up to the trees and reveals beautiful stones that were pushed here by glaciers from the far north during the Ice Age.
