The Fehmarnsund Bridge, or as the locals call it:  the largest coat hanger in the world.  The bridge celebrated its 50th anniversary on April 30th this year and is a landmark of Schleswig-Holstein. It connects the island of Fehmarn in the Baltic Sea with the mainland near Großenbrode and is a combined road and railway bridge.<br>
On May 14, 1963, the ferry port of Puttgarden, about 8 km away, was opened, from where ferries continue to Denmark. The Vogelfluglinie was completed and significantly eased train and car traffic. This anniversary  50 years of the Vogelfluglinie  was also celebrated with a special postage stamp and several events on Fehmarn.<br>
