View from the Brocken over the Ilse Valley with Ilsenburg on the edge of the Harz Mountains overlooking the northern Harz foreland; one can see the catastrophic forest damage in the northern Harz, while the Brocken primeval forest with its pine-like trees, mostly several centuries old, which have already experienced and survived so much, is obviously not or hardly affected by this forest damage caused by climate change... 

Evening mood on the Brocken with a view towards the East Harz; visible are the enormous forest damages on the Hohneklippen. The dying and eventually decaying forest literally prepares the ground for the young forest by fertilizing and deacidifying it... 

"The Paradise of the Great Little Things," diptych (= 2 related paintings): oil, oil pastel on cotton + wood (frame), 2019 - 2020, twice 106.5 x 146 cm; view from the Brocken to the south and southeast... My commitment to the "unobtrusive" insects that are slowly disappearing. It is alarming how few bumblebees, beetles, butterflies, etc. remain in cultural landscapes. Yet nature is a harmoniously ordered organism; everything, including the small inconspicuous creatures, has its purpose, belongs to our habitat, our basis for life, which we are increasingly destroying... so "Live and let live..."
