The spoil heaps of the former Saar mining industry have different characters. The spoil heap of the former Göttelborn mine today serves as a viewing mound with a view over the Saar coal forest. In the foreground lies the Weiher power plant of Steag, behind it the view extends all the way to the French border. 26.03.2017

Our vacation in the region around Mittenwald started on the first day with great weather. We were rewarded on our 10 km hike with fantastic views. After about 5 km, we reached the Barmsee, where we took a break. View over the lake to the Karwendel mountains and the Soiern group. 05.10.2015

Our vacation in the region around Mittenwald started on the first day with great weather. Our two friends who prefer trains did not want to undertake the effort of a hike. However, we were rewarded on our 10 km walk, entirely on foot without any means of transport, with stunning views. After about 3.5 km, we reached Lake Geroldsee. View across the lake to the Karwendel Mountains and the Soiern Group. 05.10.2015

Around Lautersee - A wonderful autumn day invited us to go hiking on 09.10.2014. From Gröbl Alm in Mittenwald, we passed by Kranzberg to Lautersee. During the circuit, this beautiful view over the lake to the Karwendel massif is offered.

Clear water, fresh air, and great views await the hiker on the tour to Lautersee near Mittenwald. And after the view of the Alpspitze, the route goes around the lake, where cozy restaurants await for a snack break. 09.10.2014

Hike to Wildensee - On 06.10.2014, we went up to Wildensee near Mittenwald.
In Klais/Mittenwald Am Quicken, a path leads up to the lake through the training area of the Mittenwald mountain infantry. Outside of training times, the area may be entered, but there are no signposts and you have to plan your hike in advance. The lake is located at 1136 meters below the Kranzberg, with the starting point in Klais at about 930 meters. The lake has an area of approximately 2.3 hectares. Here is the view of the Soiern group of the Karwendel mountains.
Along the way, you reach an altitude of about 1200 meters. After two hours of almost continuous uphill, this view makes the effort worthwhile. 06.10.2014

The Schmalensee is a lake near Mittenwald. It is approximately seven hectares in size and only 2.5 meters deep at its deepest point. The lake is privately owned and inhabited by many fish species.

The lake is located directly on the state road between Mittenwald and Klais at the Buckelwiesen. It can also be seen from the railway line from Garmisch-Partenkirchen to Mittenwald.
