The Danish Queen Ingrid, who loved flowers, left her mark on the Gravenstein Castle Park (Gråsten Slotshave) over many years, which became such a vibrant example of royal garden art of the present day. Queen Margrethe continues the long-standing tradition of her parents by using Gråsten Castle as a summer residence. Today, the Queen sets her accents in the color design and plant selection of the park.

In March 2020, the historic lime tree in the castle park of Augustenborg (Northern Schleswig) snapped. The 200-year-old tree could not withstand the strong wind. And it was not just any tree. The fairy tale writer Hans Christian Andersen sat in the shade of the tree in 1844 when he visited the ducal family in Augustenborg. The tree bore a striking resemblance to the tree known from the fairy tale "The Tinderbox."

"The Little Match Girl" is one of the best-known fairy tales by Hans Christian Andersen. He wrote it in 1845 during a nine-day stay at Gravenstein Castle by this tree.
