Largest lake in the province of Dalarna and the seventh largest lake in all of Sweden, that is Lake Siljan. It has an area of 290 km² and is 143 m deep at its deepest point. It is traversed by the Österdalälven River, and from the north, the water of Lake Orsasjön flows into it. Directly connected to the south is Lake Insjön.

The Siljan Lake in front of Rättvik as seen from Vidablick. The Siljan is picturesque and beautiful. But unfortunately, there is usually not much you can do with it. It is often too cold for swimming. For sailing and canoeing, it is too exposed.

Water lilies on Lake Ödevatten in Småland, Sweden. Sweden is not called the number 1 canoe country in Europe for nothing. There is a very good infrastructure here for this hobby. Since Swedes themselves also like to spend time in nature, not just for canoeing, there is almost always a canoe rental or a provider who can assist you on site if you want to plan a canoe tour.

Because of the idea that one has a "yard" of islands in front of the mainland, this phenomenon is called "skärgård" in Swedish.
