The citadel of Silifke, located over 100 meters above the town, displays details from several eras. On 24.09.2008, the structure could only be viewed from the outside, but even that was impressive. 

If you follow the well-developed D715 from Silifke inland towards the Taurus Mountains, there are very few villages to pass through, like here on 23.09.2008 the small village of Kargicak (which has nothing to do with the place of the same name directly on the Mediterranean). 

If you continue north on the D715, about 10 km after the town of Mut, you will find the turnoff to the Alahan Monastery, the ruins of a Christian monastery located at over 1200 m altitude. There, you might be lucky and find yourself completely alone, able to admire the fairly large, partially well-preserved complex, as here on 23.09.2008. 

Silifke, a small town in the Mersin province in southern Turkey, is dominated by the Byzantine citadel. The Göksu River is probably always this green at this time of year (19.09.2008). In 1190, the river was still called Saleph; just a few kilometers upstream, Emperor Barbarossa drowned in these waters. 

The interior of the Mädchenburg is freely accessible; you can swim the 400 meters from the beach. If you have photo equipment with you, you need to find someone to take you across by boat, which can be a bit complicated outside the high season (18.09.2008). 

The Maiden's Castle, located about 400 meters off the coast of the town of the same name (Kizkalesi) in southern Turkey, is surrounded by a romantic legend. In September (16.09.2009), the temperatures here are still midsummer-like, but no longer as extremely hot as in July/August. 
