One of the largest European pumped-storage power plants operates in Vianden, the Vianden pumped-storage plant. Within the facility, during periods of low electricity consumption, water from the Our River is pumped into a reservoir on the "Niklosbierg." During peak electricity demand times, the water is released back into the river from the upper reservoir. Hydropower drives generators to produce electricity. In the panoramic image (composed of 3 photos), you can see the upper reservoir, which has a capacity of 6 million m³. Every day from 6:00 PM, the pumps operate for about eight hours, pumping the water approximately 280 meters uphill. In the morning from 6:00 AM, the water is released over about four hours to generate electricity. 15.09.2011 (Jeanny)
