One of the largest European pumped-storage power plants operates in Vianden, the Vianden Pumped Storage Plant. Within the facility, during periods of low electricity consumption, water from the Our River is pumped into a reservoir on the  Niklosbierg.  During peak electricity demand, the water is released back into the river from the upper reservoir. Hydropower is used to drive generators for electricity production. In the panoramic image (composed of 3 pictures), you can see the upper reservoir, which has a capacity of 6 million m³. Every day from 6:00 PM, the pumps pump the water up about 280 meters for around eight hours. In the morning from 6:00 AM, it is released back down in about four hours to generate electricity. 15.09.2011 (Jeanny)
