The weather station on the Brocken was built in 1939 and still serves as a weather station today. Despite the freezing temperatures, December 27, 2014, also offered good visibility of the eastern Harz (in the background). Most days of the year, the summit is shrouded in clouds.

Despite the frosty and gloomy weather, there was a good long-distance view towards the West Harz from Brocken on 27.12.2014. In the center of the image are the Lerchenköpfe, on whose two summits the radio towers of the Torfhaus transmitter are located. At the foot of the left transmitter is the small settlement of Torfhaus, which mainly serves as a recreational area and starting point for hikes. On the left in the foreground, the route of the Brocken Railway briefly appears between the trees, which has been leading to the Brocken summit since 1898.
