On the slope of the Rüdesheimer Berg stands the ruins of Ehrenfels Castle. It was built at the beginning of the 13th century. The large shield wall with its two corner towers (mountain side) and remains of a three-story palas (Rhine side) are still preserved. The ruined condition of the castle is due to war damage in the 17th century. Since 2002, the castle ruins have been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Upper Middle Rhine Valley". (16.07.2014)
