This large clearing in the forest near Braunlage was created first by a storm, then because numerous other trees had to be felled, which were damaged by this storm, weakened by last year's extremely dry climate, and then infested by bark beetles. Now flowers have taken over the area; meanwhile, there are numerous such clearings created by logging in the forest near Braunlage, due to the ongoing drought and bark beetle infestation, especially in northern Germany. Shot on the morning of 06.08.2019 on a forest path between Braunlage and the Brunnenbach... 

Land of the "open distances"; the forest on the edge of the national park trail between Silberteich and Hahnenkleeklippen, formerly a monotonous spruce plantation, has completely restructured since the founding of the national park in the 1990s. From the once dense spruce monocultures, only a few gnarled trees remain here, along with numerous deciduous trees, between which the view can wander all the way to the mountains of the southern Harz; photo taken in the late afternoon of 15.11.2018 

Many young saplings are sprouting from the ground. Numerous deciduous trees also line the forest road; shot in the late afternoon of 15.11.2018... 
