About 20 meters below the viewing platform at Jungfraujoch is the Ice Palace, a fascinating world of tunnels and halls carved into the ice of the Jungfrau Glacier. In niches, there are beautiful ice sculptures, some of which, like here, are illuminated with colored light. (24.07.2008)

During a walk in Düsseldorf's Ständehauspark on 11.05.2008, I was made aware of these three red-eared slider turtles that had made themselves comfortable on a small island of some plant debris in the Swan Pond, probably to enjoy the sun. They certainly do not belong there, perhaps released? The image was taken with full optical zoom combined with digital enlargement, so unfortunately the image quality is not completely optimal.

Ascent to Rigi Kulm on 20.07.2007 from Vitznau. The view goes through the windows of the railcar towards Lake Lucerne. The colors are somewhat strange; I suspect that the windows of the railcar filtered the incoming light. I haven't altered anything.

As already mentioned in my pictures of the Rigi railways on bahnbilder.de, the beautiful sunny weather on the Rigi changed abruptly on 20.07.2007 when a wall of clouds moved over the mountain. On one hand, it was a pity, but on the other hand, it was also a somehow fascinating natural spectacle. Fortunately, the clouds did not bring any rain.

In the late afternoon of July 21, 2007, around 5:00 PM, Lucerne was hit by an extreme heavy rainstorm. I had spent a few hours that day walking through the Swiss Museum of Transport and had just returned to my hotel room to rest a bit. I was awakened by the sound of the rain—and by the screams of people who were caught outside by the rain.
