Actually, only from the publicly accessible tower of the Church of St. Peter and Paul in Mělník can you simultaneously overlook the confluence of the Vltava River (left) and the Vltava Canal (right, with the well-known Hořín lock) into the Elbe River. At this point, the Vltava is actually the larger river, having the longer course and carrying more water. Why the Elbe wins in the further naming, I have not yet been able to find out. 13.10.2017

In Premnitz, the location with the smallest and most compact area of BUGA 2015, a 10-meter-high observation tower has been erected directly on the Havel River, offering a great overview of the wonderful Havelland landscape. Houseboats are a popular recreational activity there, and when the weather cooperates as it did on 02.06.2015, it makes for a successful day for everyone.

Ka¨perk Castle, located north of Ka¨perské Hory (Bergreichenstein) in the Bohemian Forest, is considered the highest castle in Bohemia at 886 meters. Built between 1360-65, it towers prominently over the surrounding area. Due to its cleverly chosen site, it was never captured. 27.09.2011

In late summer, the Bohemian Forest is particularly charming; the weather is usually quite reliably good, but not too warm. This was also the case on September 22, 2009, when the sky above the Velhartice ruins left nothing to be desired. The castle, located above the Ostružná river, is currently being restored, but this is done very carefully and without significantly disturbing the (few) visitors.

The Black Lake (Černé jezero) in the Bohemian Forest, the largest glacial lake there, with a water surface at an elevation of 1006 meters. The border with Bavaria already runs along the mountain ridge on the left in the background. By the way, on 25.09.2009, you could still find tasty blueberries in the forest there.....

The Black Lake in the Bohemian Forest cannot be completely circumnavigated on foot via walkable paths; at this point, the trail ends at the southern part. Twenty-three years ago, it was not even possible to walk this far; the immediate proximity of the state border to Germany should not give anyone the wrong idea. On this 25th of September 2009, only a few remnants of the structures remain where the border guards had to perform their duties.

The Azure Window in the west of Gozo is certainly a much-visited tourist attraction, but the area is also very attractive for divers. On 01.10.2007, there were only a few visitors there, and nice weather is (almost) always guaranteed in Malta.

If you follow the well-developed D715 from Silifke inland towards the Taurus Mountains, there are very few villages to pass through, like here on 23.09.2008 the small village of Kargicak (which has nothing to do with the place of the same name directly on the Mediterranean).

If you continue north on the D715, about 10 km after the town of Mut, you will find the turnoff to the Alahan Monastery, the ruins of a Christian monastery located at an altitude of over 1200 m. There, you might be lucky and find yourself completely alone, able to admire the fairly large, partially well-preserved complex, as here on 23.09.2008.

Silifke, a small town in the Mersin province in southern Turkey, is dominated by the Byzantine citadel. The Göksu River is probably always this green at this time of year (19.09.2008). In 1190, the river was still called Saleph; just a few kilometers upstream, Emperor Barbarossa drowned in these waters.

The interior of the Mädchenburg is freely accessible; you can swim the 400 meters from the beach. If you have photo equipment with you, you need to find someone to take you across by boat, which can be a bit complicated outside the high season (18.09.2008).

The Maiden's Castle, located about 400 meters off the coast of the town of the same name (Kizkalesi) in southern Turkey, is surrounded by a romantic legend. In September (16.09.2009), the temperatures here are still midsummer-like, but no longer as extremely hot as in July/August.

On August 21, 2008, the weather was wonderful on the East German Baltic Sea coast and thus also over the small island of Vilm, which has been under nature protection since 1936. Since 1990, it has been a biosphere reserve and is accessible again through authorized guided tours. Visitors are taken from Lauterbach by a small boat to the northern pier of the island. Prior reservation is recommended, as the number of people is limited.
