In the foreground, the explosion crater Mittelland on the island of Helgoland. In April 1947, the British wanted to blow up all military installations. It was the largest non-nuclear detonation to date, with 6,700 tons of explosives. Only in the area of today's Mittelland did the island not withstand this violent act, and the part of the Oberland there was blown into the air. In 1952, the island was returned to Germany and resettled. In the background is the South Harbor, and in the center of the image, the Halunder Jet (high-speed catamaran) can be seen. 16.07.2007 (M)

Stuttgart landscape in autumn: in the foreground in the valley lies the Stuttgart wine-growing village of Uhlbach, adjacent to it with the industrial facilities in the Neckar valley you can see parts of Obertürkheim. On the opposite side of the valley is Hedelfingen. Above that, Lederberg and Heumaden stretch up the hillside. In the middle at the top, the residential high-rises Asamwald can be seen. To the right of that on the ridge lies the Stuttgart suburb of Sillenbuch. All of this belongs to the Stuttgart city area. 06.11.2005 (M)
