The skerry Kleven is a small rocky island. Because of the idea of having a yard with islands in front of the mainland, this phenomenon is called skärgård in the Northern European languages (Swedish). The word component -gård ( yard ), which is related to the English word yard, was understood as garden in the German-speaking area. This led to the term archipelago garden.
