The Schäferhaus Foundation Land is a 292-hectare nature reserve west of Flensburg and formerly served as a military training area for the Bundeswehr. Since the mid-1990s, the area has been owned by the  Schleswig-Holstein Nature Conservation Foundation  and has been designated as a nature reserve. At various stations throughout the foundation land, nature is explained and illustrated for visitors and hikers.
