Why do some Christmas cacti bloom in summer or March – in your photo I saw March 2015. Mine always blooms around Christmas time, but interestingly, this time it also produced a single bloom in June for my birthday. Is there an explanation for this?

Since I am not an expert on cacti, I don't have an answer to that.
I can only add that it also bloomed in March 2016 and is currently full of buds again, which will bloom in about two weeks.
